A rug coming out of a new customer’s home, an IMMACULATE home, where this rug was underneath the couch. The couch where the family gathers for hours. And underneath their favorite spot, several square feet of wool rug completely being eaten away by moths.

We are finding in one of every five new customers’ homes that we visit, moth activity that the homeowners have no idea is there.

This is because there are NOT moths flying around to show signs of the problem. The larvae worms are eating the food source, and they will stay and eat in the same area for as long as a YEAR before they become flying moths.

When you see moths flying around, there has already been devastation somewhere in that home.

Due to the higher humidity in the southwest states, this is a HUGE problem here. But this problem happens all over the US and the world. I receive emails daily from all over the place asking for advice on moths and carpet beetles. It seems to be an epidemic.

It’s a problem, but also an opportunity.

It’s an opportunity to reach our to YOUR customers, and encourage them to inspect under large furniture. If they catch the problem early, it’s a quick fix. If they get to the problem too late, it can cost a small fortune in disposing of rugs and furniture and getting the home fumigated.

Right now I am writing to my customers and sending them to my rug shop page on moths:

This has videos to show them what to look for, and what to do if they find bugs eating their rugs, their furniture, or their clothing. Moths and carpet beetles lay their eggs in wool, silk, soiled cotton, feathers, some leathers, and in areas of collected pet fur. It is not uncommon to find them in the underside of pet beds.

Springtime is high season for larvae feeding. And it’s a great excuse to reach out to your customer list and plead with them to inspect under large items and dark undisturbed areas of their homes.
